What is the dosage and how should it be used?

Indinavir comes as a capsule to be administered orally.

Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed to you. Do not take the medication in larger or smaller amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Indinavir must be taken every 8 hours on schedule.

Take each dose with water, skim milk, juice, coffee, or tea. Furthermore, you may take indinavir with a light meal such as toast and jelly, or corn flakes with skim milk and sugar. Avoid taking the medicine with a high-fat or otherwise high-calorie meal.

Drink at least six 8-ounce glasses (48 ounces) of fluid every day while taking indinavir to keep your kidneys working properly and to prevent kidney stones.

If you also take didanosine (Videx®), take it at least 1 hour before or after taking indinavir. Do not take these two medicines together.

It is important to take indinavir regularly to get the most benefit. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine completely.

HIV/ AIDS is usually treated with a combination of different drugs. To best treat your condition, use all of your medications as directed by your doctor. Be sure to read the medication guide or patient instructions provided with each of your medications. Do not change your doses or medication schedule without advice from your doctor. Every person with HIV or AIDS should remain under the care of a doctor.

To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. It is important that you not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.
